SA Lotteries issue a lottery scam alert

1 min read

SA Lotteries yesterday issued a warning to players about a recent spate of scam activity, in which the name of the lottery is used. Their statement read:

"SA Lotteries has become aware of a recent telephone lottery scam, and wishes to alert all players.

In this hoax prize alert, an individual claiming to be calling on behalf of SA Lotteries is contacting South Australians at random and urging them to collect an unclaimed lottery prize.

The caller states that the prize is due to expire in the coming weeks, and that prior to collection of the prize at Head Office some personal details are required.

Specifics of the prize amount, draw date, lottery game or any further details are not volunteered to the recipients of these calls.

SA Lotteries does contact prize winners to alert them of winnings if the player is a registered member of our Easiplay Club, however we do not notify prize winners via email.

If you have received a suspicious email or telephone call from someone claiming to be from SA Lotteries telling you that you have won a prize, please:

If you suspect you may be involved in a hoax, please contact SA Lotteries’ Switchboard (during business hours) on 8208 4100 to verify the legitimacy of the call.

If you wish to report a scam, please contact the Office of Consumer and Business Affairs on 08 8204 9777 or via email at metro.cab@agd.sa.gov.au."
