Kingsford $1 million Wednesday Lotto winner is all smiles

2 min read

Last week's $1 million Wednesday Lotto winner from the Sydney suburb of Kingsford has claimed his prize from NSW Lotteries.

The winner is a family man, who has chosen to remain anonymous. He played a systems 9 ticket, that he carried in his wallet for two days before checking to see it it had won a prize.

“I buy a systems nine ticket every few weeks. This time I bought two tickets, I got one when I bought my bus ticket in the morning and then spontaneously got a second ticket that afternoon. I won the prize on the second ticket,” the winner told NSW Lotteries officials.

“I didn’t check my ticket until late on Friday night, I looked the results up on the NSW Lotteries website,” the winner added.

The winner, keen to ensure he had not made a mistake, asked his wife to get out of bed to double check the ticket against the results on the website.

“I was in bed and he came in and just said, ‘come here for a second, I need you to check something for me.’ I didn’t know what he wanted me to check at first,” she laughed as she recounted how they found out they were Lotto winners.

When asked how they intend to use their newfound fortune, the winners admitted that they are still coming to terms with winning.

“We just keep smiling and laughing at each other. This certainly elevates a lot of stress,” the winner’s wife said.

“We’ve got a lot of thinking to do before we make any decisions,” the winner added.

The winning ticket purchased from Kingsford Newsagency at 450 Anzac Parade, Kingsford.
