Illawarra region is a lottery win hotspot

2 min read

The Illawarra region of NSW is having a lucky lottery streak at the moment, with almost $17 million worth of prizes heading down the Southern Freeway in the past five days or so.

First up was the biggest slice of luck, an Albion Park man winning $16 million playing Powerball in the May 12 draw.

Then cut to Monday night, with Monday Lotto division one wins for two Illawarra players, who purchased their tickets at Koonawarra Newsagency in Dapto, and at Bomaderry Newsagency. Each of these two has won $333,333.34.

Finally, prizes of $200,00, $20,000 and $5,000 prize have been won yesterday by Illawarra players in the Lucky Lotteries $5 Jackpot draw. The $200,000-wiinning ticket was purchased from the Centretown Newsagency in Wollongong, the $20,000-winning ticket from Thirroul Newsagency, and the $5,000-winning ticket from the Keiraville Newsagency.

Those three winners in the Lucky Lotteries $5 Jackpot, draw 725, are not registered to Players Club members, and NSW Lotteries officials are advising Illawarra Lucky Lotteries players to check their tickets as soon as possible and if you think you may have a winning ticket, to keep it safe and contact NSW Lotteries on 1300 363 444.

NSW Lotteries Communications Executive Una O’Neill said that it is unusual to see a cluster of big wins such as this in one area in such a short space of time.

“Lottery winners in the Illawarra region have certainly experienced quite an amazing run of wins over the last five days with six prizes ranging from $5,000 to more than $16 million being won in the area.

“While it is not impossible, it is an unusual occurrence,” Ms O’Neill said.
