Dreams come true for $50 million Powerball winners
2 min read
Three Division 1 winners from last night's mega $50 million Powerball draw have each claimed their $16.6 million prize - but it hasn't quite sunk in yet.
An anonymous Victorian man was "still in disbelief" this morning after his 50-game Quickpick landed the winning numbers, but had already decided to "share his good fortune". The family man said he planned to give each of his kids a new car, and treat himself to "a boat and a jet ski."
"I don't need that amount of money, it's too much for me!" said the winner, adding that he would "be able to live a better lifestyle" but that the money wouldn't change who he was.
The second Victorian winners, a couple from Rowville in Melbourne, are also thinking carefully about how to use their prize money. The wife said she and her husband are "literally living a dream" after their System 7 ticket landed $16.6 million in their pocket.
"You never think it's going to happen to you," she said after an emotional night. After checking her winning numbers online, she woke her husband by "yelling" and "waving their Powerball ticket in his face", but he was reportedly still having trouble believing it this morning.
The third winner, a West Australian who purchased their ticket in Padbury, will also be celebrating this morning.
More than a million prizes were won in Divisions 2 to 7 last night, including sixteen Division 2 prizes of over $78,000. The winning numbers in Powerball draw 961 on Thursday October 16 2014 were 13, 9, 26, 18, 4 and 34, with a Powerball of 3. Next Thursday's Powerball jackpot is $3 million - official tickets are available now.
