Melbourne man forgets $700,000 lotto win

A Melbourne man who forgot about a Division 1 Saturday Lotto win has finally claimed the six month old prize. The winner was aware he had the winning ticket when the numbers were announced in February, but was in such a state of shock that he simply stashed the ticket without claiming the prize.
The winner said he was "just overwhelmed by it all" and had forgotten to claim an estimated $700,000. He only remembered about the win after seeing a news story about the outstanding prize money. The ticket, purchased at a Bourke St newsagent, was unregistered; lottery officials were unable to identify the winner at the time of the draw on February 22 this year.
