Bendigo's biggest lotto prize brings winner $5,000,000

A lucky lotto player has scooped the entire Division 1 prize pool from Tuesday's Oz Lotto draw, walking away $5,000,000 richer. The winner, who wishes to remain anonymous and declined to give a statement, played an 18-game Quickpick from an Epsom newsagency.

It is the largest prize ever won in Bendigo, following a $1.1 million windfall won by a local family in May this year.

The owner of the newsagency was elated to discover he had sold a Division 1 winning ticket, especially as the store had only been open for six months. "We're so excited you'd think we'd won the first division!" he laughed, adding he was "so thrilled" for their new multi-millionaire customer.

He mentioned how gratifying it was to "have been able to sell a ticket and change someone's life forever - in a good way."

He had "always had a feeling" that his store would sell a Division 1 winning ticket, and hoped that "lightning [would] strike twice" with tonight's $40 million Powerball draw. Official tickets are available online now - but hurry, draw closes at 8pm AEDT!

The winning numbers from Oz Lotto draw 1077 on 7 October 2014 were 6, 15, 23, 28, 20, 19, and 3, plus supplementary numbers 2 and 31.
